Learning English for IT Specialists

Whether you are a front-end, backend, or full-stack developer, a team lead or a product owner, speaking and learning English is becoming a must-need skill in the world of Information Technology. As the Information Technology job market grows, you will be competing against native English speakers. If someone has a higher level of English, they will probably have a better chance at getting promoted in jobs where English is required.

Of course, there are a number of reasons why learning English is important.

Being clearly understood!

If your clients or bosses are from the United States, you need to explain things easily to them. Having a language barrier only causes confusion. While you might have a concept in your mind, the grammar and the words you use might come across as either rude or esoteric. Building and learning English vocabulary is important to clearly explain concepts and ideas to stakeholders.

English helps in many ways!

English can help you in other ways that you didn’t expect. One of my students who just won a company-wide hackathon told me that her knowledge of English was what gave her the edge when it came to coming out on top. So, besides communications, learning English can help in so many ways that you didn’t even expect.

Makes immigration to the US easier!

As the tech sector continues to grow in the United States, which will require IT specialists to immigrate to the US, knowing English will not only help you assimilate into a new company based in America, but will also help you fit into your new environment. As someone who has lived in other countries, I know how hard it can be to fit in, especially if you don’t know the language. Finding employees who can work well with others, as well as be part of a larger community, it an added intangible factor that companies can look at when selecting their employees, hopefully you! Learning English is the key.
